This illustration shows the surgical repair of a cervical disc herniation at the C3-C4 interspace, beginning with a pre-operative view of the herniated disc on the right side compressing the thecal sac. An initial incision is made in the anterior neck to access the C3-C4 disc space. Following exposure, the herniated disc material is excised to decompress the thecal sac. The endplates of the C3 and C4 vertebrae are then drilled to prepare for graft placement. A tricortical bone graft, harvested from the patient’s iliac crest, is inserted into the C3-C4 interspace to provide stability. Finally, an Orion plate and screws are placed over the grafted area to secure the fusion and complete the stabilization procedure.
